What if it took you an Hour of your day to have a better Understanding of the World?
That is exactly what Julien Smith is proposing here in his article How to Read a Book a Week.
Julien is spot on with his words.
I joined a Book Club set up by my friend Tina close to a year ago and have thoroughly enjoyed each and every month reading the books and then getting on a Google Hangout with friends all across America (Me being the token international person) to discuss the book each month.
I will admit I had troubles finishing a book I would read maybe half and move on thinking I understood the concept. When we started the book club I was able to get more focused and achieve the finish reading a book each month.
I had in the past read maybe half and be thinking about the idea's and drift off and not get the whole concept. What do you know when you read to the end there is more depth to the information you are reading. They complete their theories and then you can go and implement it. I was cutting it off halfway and not getting the full concept.
In taking a piece of the article, Julien wrote I have found this to be the case wholeheartedly now.
"Why in God’s Name You Would Want To Do This"
It feels awesome. It gives you an amazing amount of ideas. It helps you think more thoroughly. It’s better than TV and even the Internet. It makes you understand the world more. It is a building block towards a habit of completion. Did I mention it feels awesome?"
With each book, it has opened my world, even more and given me so many more insights and brings a change of perception. My clients will know that I am always recommending books for them to read different books so they can have an insight that is needed in their stage of development, I do the same.
This year I am going to challenge myself even more to double the amount of books.
Take the time to set yourself a goal of reading books, get a group of friends together to decide on a book to read and review it. We obviously talk about business book for our businesses, but even other books can be good if they are giving you insights to the world.
